Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo is an Mexican/American actor, best known for his roles playing the villain. Trejo has a distinctive appearance, including multiple tattoos, a heavily lined face, and often a long mustache. His acting career is prolific, and he appears in over five movies or other projects each year. Trejo is a cousin of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. When Trejo was a teenager, he had dreams of becoming a professional boxer, but his multiple jail sentences put this dream out of reach. However, Trejo did participate in boxing while in prison, and became the California state prison champ in two divisions.

Danny Trejo accompanied a friend to the set of the movie Runaway Train, where he received a job as an extra in the film. Writer Edward Bunker recognized Trejo from their mutual time in San Quentin prison, and Bunker remembered how good Trejo was at boxing. Bunker offered Trejo a job training the star Eric Roberts to box for a scene in the movie. The director of the movie, Andrei Konchalovsky was so impressed with Trejo that he offered him a role in the movie.

Part of Danny Trejo's interactions with the law stemmed from illegal drug use. While in prison, Trejo became involved in a 12 step program that helped him quit drugs altogether and remain clean.

Trejo often talks to youth groups about his experiences with drugs, crime, and prison to help dissuade kids from making the same mistakes he did.

Also, Trejo created the ITN Clothing brand, which includes hip-hop style T-shirts and accessories.
