  • NHL Career

    Markov was drafted 223rd overall in the 1995 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He continued to play in Russia, for the Spartak Moscow, until 1997, when he made his NHL debut with the Leafs. Markov split his first season between the Leafs and their American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John's Maple Leafs. He earned a full roster spot with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1998 and continued with the team until June 12, 2001, when he was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes. He played nearly two seasons in Phoenix before he was sent to the Carolina Hurricanes on June 21, 2003. Briere joined the Hurricanes for 44 games, then was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers on January 20, 2004. During the 2004-05 NHL lockout, Markov played in Russia for the Vityaz Chekhov. After returning to the NHL after the lockout, he was traded to the Nashville Predators. Following one season with the Predators, Markov signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings on July 26, 2006.
