Daniel Ricardo Manning, a.k.a Danny Manning was born on May 17, 1966 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He is a retired professional forward/center who was the 1988 first pick draft for the Los Angeles Clippers. His collegiate career began at the University of Kansas, where he was considered to be one of the greatest players not only at his alma mater but also in NCAA college basketball history.
The son of former NBA player, Ed Manning and standing at 6 ft. 10 and weighing 230 pounds, Manning was named the Big Eight Player of the Decade and also won the Wooden, Naismith , andEastman awards as the college player of the year. That same year, he also played in the 1988 Summer Olympics, playing on the USA National team and won the bronze medal. After playing with the Clippers from the years of 1988 to 1994, he had stints on the following team; Atlanta Hawks (1994), Phoenix Suns (1994 to 1999), Milwaukee Bucks (1999 to 2000), Utah Jazz (2000 to 2001), Dallas Mavericks (2001 to 2002), and the Detroit Pistons (2002 to 2003). Manning’s most recent season was in 2003 with the Detroit Pistons. He was signed as a free agent. During that season, he averaged 2.6 points per game and 1.4 rebounds. He also played 13 games during that season with the Pistons, with average minutes per game being 6.8.
In his last season, the 2002-2003 NBA season, he reached most of his career highs during the April 16, 2003 game against the Boston Celtics. These career highs include 6 total rebounds, 18 points per game, 5 steals, 7 field goals, and played a total of 31 minutes. Manning is currently serving as assistant coach at his alma mater, and has been a big factor in recruitment and training the Jayhawks basketball team.
