Danielle Rousseau is a character on the ABC’s Lost and is played by Mira Furlan. Melissa Farman portrays a younger version of Danielle Rousseau in the fifth season. Rousseau (commonly known as The French Woman) came to the island with a science team in 1988, while she was 7 months pregnant with her daughter Alex Linus. Shortly after Danielle had her baby, Alex was taken away by Benjamin Linus. She had lived for 16 years completely isolated form any human contact.

After the Crash

The first we see of Rousseau she captures Sauid Jarrah and tortures him until her convinces her he is not one of the Others. She is the first to ever mention the Others. She lets Sayid go back to the camp, but warns him to keep a close eye on his friends. Two weeks later she saves Claire Littleton, who had been left in the jungle after being kidnapped by Ethan. Later on she shoots at Charlie Pace and Hugo Hurley Reyes, thinking they are Others. Some time goes by before Rousseau comes to warn everyone that the Others are coming. When Claire gives birth to Aaron, Rousseau kidnaps him with the intention of trading him with the Others for her own child. The others do not come so she gives Aaron back. Two weeks later Rousseau finds Sayid and tells him she has caught one of the Others, who turns out to be Ben. Kate, later, persuades Rousseau to help a few of the survivors find where the Others live, by telling her that Alex helped her escape from the Others. When they arrive, Rousseau leaves the rest of the group to watch Alex as she walks by. Just a few days later, she leads the survivors to the radio tower. On their way there, they come across Ben and Alex, Ben tells Alex who Rousseau s and they reunite. When the survivors break off in two groups Rousseau and Alex choose to follow John Locke Lost. When the freighter crew land on the island with the intention to kill everyone, Ben tells Rousseau, Alex and her boyfriend Karl, to go to the Temple.
