Daniel James was a 22-year-old rugby player from Sinton Green, England, who dislocated his spine during a rugby scrum in March 2007. After several operations and eight months of rehabilitation, he returned to his home permanently paralyzed from the chest down.
James tried to commit suicide three times, and finally traveled with his parents to Dignitas euthanasia clinic in Switzerland, where he died on September 12, 2008.Times Online: 'Second-class life' not enough for rugby star... (October 18, 2008)
