Actor Daniel Hoevels slashed his neck during an onstage performance of Mary Stuart at the Burgtheater in Vienna, Austria in early December 2008. Hoevels' character commits suicide near the end of the play. He did not realize the dull prop had been replaced with a real blade until he stabbed himself in the neck, collapsing onstage as blood spurted from his neck.
