Daniel Akaka

  • Daniel Akaka is the junior U.S. Senator from Hawaii.
  • Early Life

    Akaka received both a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in education from the University of Hawaii. He went on to work as a teacher and principal.
  • Political Career

    In 1976, Akaka began a long tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he remained until 1990. That year, Akaka replaced Senator Spark Matsunaga, who had died in office.

    Akaka is a member of six Senate committees:
