Dance Central, available exclusively for the Xbox 360, is a music and rhythm video game that challenges players to emulate the dance moves of on-screen characters to popular dance songs. The game was developed by Harmonix, the same company that created Rock Band, and is published by MTV Games.http://marketplace.xbox.com:80/en-US/Product/Dance-Central/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802545607d3
Dance Central does not use any controllers, but instead utilizes the technology of the Kinect accessory (which is required to play the game). Kinect tracks motion so that, unlike previous rhythm games like Dance Dance Revolution, whole-body dance moves are incorporated and players have complete range of movement.http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1132366p1.html
Dance Central incorporates 650 different dance moves into over 90 routines, which are set to 32 songs.http://www.dancecentral.com/game Training is available via the Break it Down feature, and each song has three levels of difficulty (the hard levels become unlocked after mastering the easier ones). Players may participate solo in Perform It! mode or compete head to head in Dance Battle. There is also a workout mode that tracks calories burned.http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1132366p1.html
Songs in Dance Central span several decades, and include such classics as "Jungle Boogie" by Kool and the Gang and Bel Biv Devoe's "Poison" alongside current pop hits like Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" and "Disturbia" by Rihanna. Other songs will be made downloadable in the future.http://www.dancecentral.com/songs
Dance Central Dance Battles
Dance Battle is essentially the two-player mode of Dance Central, and in this mode two competitors go head to head to the same routine and song. Players take turns dancing, and the one who receives the highest score wins the battle. Scoring is based on how close the player can get to exactly mimicking the moves shown on-screen.http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/dance-central-battle-mode-revealed-new-songs-announced/
In Dance Battle, as in other modes of the game, players can track the success of their performance by paying attention to the audio and visual clues. Poor performances will result in a washed-out screen and lowered bass, while stellar routines will prompt the screen to darken as a laser light show commences and the bass grows louder.http://www.joystiq.com/2010/08/17/dance-central-battle-mode-revealed-new-songs-announced/
