Early Life
Daniel Michael Wheeler was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, on December 10, 1977. He attended college at Central Arizona University. In 1996, Wheeler was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 34th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Pro Career
On September 1, 1999, Wheeler made his MLB debut with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In his first season, he appeared in 6 games and finished the season with a 5.87 earned run average. In 2002, he signed with the Atlanta Braves. The following season, he signed with the New York Mets. In 2004, he was traded to the Houston Astros. Then in 2007, he returned to the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade for Ty Wigginton. He finished the 2007 season with a total of 1 win and 9 losses with an earned run average of 5.30. That year he appeared in 45 games for the Astros and 25 games for the Rays.
