Major League Baseball second baseman Dan Uggla currently plays for the Florida Marlins.
Before his MLB career, Uggla played for the University of Memphis, earning All-American honors, his third year. He was then drafted on June 5, 2001 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Uggla played for the Diamondbacks' minor league affiliates for five seasons, between various AA teams. After failing to make the Diamondbacks' roster, he was selected by the Florida Marlins on December 8, 2005 in the Rule 5 Draft.
Uggla made his MLB debut with the Marlins the following season on April 4, 2006. His 2006 season was his most successful at the time, playing in 151 games for the Marlins. In 2006 he was also selected for the All-Star Game, but did not play and selected by the Sporting News as the Rookie of the Year. Uggla saw more playing time during the 2007 season, playing in 158 games with the Marlins. He finished fifth in the National League for runs, at 113.
