Dan Cleary

  • Canadian professional hockey player Dan Cleary currently plays for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League.
  • Early Career

    Cleary joined the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League in 1995, where he played just short of four seasons. He was selected 13th overall in the 1997 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He split the last part of 1997-98 season between the Blackhawks and the Indianapolis Ice of the now defunct International Hockey League. He continued to split his time between the minor league affiliates and the NHL over the next two seasons.
  • Recent Years

    On March 20, 1999 Cleary was traded to the Edmonton Oilers. He played with the Oilers through the 2002-03 season, then signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Coyotes. Cleary played with the Coyotes for one season, then played in Sweden during the 2004-05 NHL Lockout. Returning to the United States as a free agent, Clearly signed with the Detroit Red Wings on October 4, 2005.
