Damnation is a steampunk game set in an alternate United States where the Civil War never ended and the country is in a complete state of chaos. Players take on the role of Hamilton Rourke, a disgraced soldier who is opposed to the plans of the dictator Prescott.

The game features a multiplayer co-op mode that allows players to share the entire campaign with a friend. During the single-player campaign, Rourke encounters a number of NPCs who help him on his quest for a period of time. In multiplayer, the second player takes control of the NPCs. Of course, there are the classic multiplayer modes players expect, but tweaked to make use of Damnation's unique gamplay elements.
