Dallas

Dallas is the third largest city in Texas. It covers 385 square miles and has a population of over 1.2 million people. The economy of Dallas is primarily based on the petroleum industry, computer technology industry, telecommunications industry, transportation industry and the banking industry. The city of Dallas is currently the third most popular business travel destination in the U.S. It houses the Dallas Convention Center which is one of the largest business centers in the country at over one million square feet.

Dallas has several sports teams, including the Dallas Cowboys (football), Texas Rangers (Baseball), Dallas Stars (Ice Hockey), and Dallas Mavericks (basketball). Every year Dallas holds the State Fair of Texas in October at Fairpark. Ironically, most of the teams are actually based out of Arlington, Texas a completely separate city located about 30 miles west of Dallas.

Dallas was founded in 1841 by John Neely Bryan and incorporated into a city on February 2, 1856. No one really knows for sure why the city was named Dallas. Dallas county was named after Vice President Dallas, but the reason for naming the city Dallas is a subject of speculation and the reason is lost to history.http://www.dallashistory.org/history/dallas/topics.htm#dallas_name
