Originally Daddy Yankee aspired to be a
Spanish language rapper but as he continued to develop an original style his music fit more in line with the tempo and mood of early Reggaeton. In
1995, Yankee Released his first album,
No Mercy. The album did not sell many copies but was an important step in the growth of the genre. Daddy Yankee began to pick up fans inside of
Puerto Rico as the popularity of Reggaeton grew and in
2002 his album
El Cangri.com, which was able to gain radio play in the
United States and sold relatively well. His succes in the U.S. contined with his next album,
Barrio Fino. Fueled by the lead single,
Gasolina,
Barrio Fino, the album sold over 3 million copies. He is since released three more successful albums successful albums and
Talento de Barrio is expected in stores
