  • Coaching Career

    Swinney began his career coaching and playing with the Alabama Crimson Tide, playing in two Sugar Bowls, one Fiesta Bowl and one Blockbuster Bowl. He earned a B.S. degree from Alabama in Commerce & Business administration and also a Masters in Business administration. He left Alabama in 2003 to serve as the assistant head coach and wide receivers with the Clemson Tigers. Swinney helped the Tigers become bowl eligible for all four years between 2003 and 2007. In October of 2008, longtime head coach Tommy Bowden stepped down after 10 seasons with the Tigers.
