Chicago born rapper, Da Brat, was one of the first female rappers to have a platinum album. Her album was titled Funkdafied and was released on June 28, 1994.
On August 22, 2008, Da Brat was sentenced to three years in prison for allegedly assaulting a woman in an Atlanta nightclub resulting in permanent scarring on her face.

In 2005, De Brat was a cast member on the fourth season of VH1's The Surreal Life with Adrianne Curry, Christopher Knight, Chyna Doll, Marcus Schenkenberg, Verne Troyer and Jane Wiedlin. Two years later, in 2007, she was on the fifth season of Celebrity Fit Club. She lost 26 pounds.
