Curtis Sliwa is the founder of the neighborhood crime patrolling organization the Guardian Angels.
He was also a radio show host, whose morning program was canceled when Don Imus returned to radio in 2007. In March of 2008 he began hosting a new show which airs on WABC.
Guardian Angels
Sliwa founded the Guardian Angels in February of 1979. The organization began with just 13 members. At the time Sliwa was a manager of a MCDonalds in the Bronx. The members took part in safety patrols around the neighborhoods wearing their trademark red berets. The Guardian Angels have since expanded from a local group to an international organization.
