Cupcakes, sometimes called baby cakes, are small, individual cakes, usually wrapped in paper containers and topped with frosting. There is some debate about the origin of the word "cupcake", with some postulating that the cupcake got its name based upon the small cups used to measure ingredients for each individual cake.
Cupcakes are a favorite at children's classroom parties. They can also be dressed up and served at an elegant adult party, or accompany and afternoon luncheon or tea.
Cupcakes are a quick and easy dessert; you can actualy use any cake or loaf cake recipe including, fruitcake and quick bread recipes.
