On October 4, 2008, the cubs were eliminated from the National League Division Series by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers swept the Cubs in 3 games. As of 2008, the Cubs have not won a World Series in 100 years.
The 2008 squad has been led by the pitching of ace Carlos Zambrano and a well balanced offensive attack which includes Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, Derrek Lee, Jim Edmonds and Kosuke Fukudome.
The starting pitching staff includes Ryan Dempster, Rich Harden, Ted Lilly and Jason Marquis.
The bullpen is anchored by closer Kerry Wood.
The Cubs have reached the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time since 1908. They have reached the post season in both years under manager Lou Piniella.
In 2007, the Cubs won the National League Central, but were defeated by Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round of the playoffs.
