This year, the Crufts Dog Show showcased more than 28,000 dogs who were vying for the coveted Best in Show award. Each of these uniquely beautiful dogs, along with their proud owners entertained the whole world for four fun-filled days.
The first Crufts Dog Show took place in the Royal Agricultural Hall in the London Borough of Islington, in 1891 with Charles Cruft as the owner and organizer. That first show was a hit with the public and each year, the number of qualified entries get longer and longer. We have to thank the record number of participants who fill each of the dog show categories and the judges who help to make each year better than the last. http://www.crufts.org.uk/history-crufts Crufts has grown to be the biggest and best dog show in the world. http://www.crufts.org.uk/news/dfs-crufts-2010-day-4-show-report

History
Since that first show in 1891, Crufts has grown to be the biggest and best dog show in the world, with close to 30,000 dogs competing for the recognition of Best in Show. Every year, the owners of these coiffed pets bring them to the dog show to be admired by the more than 160,000 spectators who jam into the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England to see them. Every year, the number of entries increase and so does the number of attendees. The first Crufts shows were only one day long and after years of increased participation, The Kennel Club changed the location, from the overcrowded Olympia to the more spacious Earls Court.
In 1982, a few years after the move, the length of the show was increased to three days in order to accommodate all of the entries and the guests in attendance. With each passing year, Crufts continued to grow and in 1987, the Kennel Club decided to increase the number of days to four. The continued success and exponential growth of Crufts Dog Show forced even more change and 20 years ago, in 1991, for the first time ever, Crufts was held outside of London, at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.http://www.crufts.org.uk/history-crufts
