Crowded House

  • Crowded House, an Australian-based band, was formed in 1985 by New Zealand-born singer/songwriter Neil Finn and the drummer of his previous band (Split Enz), Paul Hester. Originally called "The Mullanes," the band changed their name to Crowded House after getting signed to Capitol Records.

Though they had plenty of success in Australia and New Zealand, their biggest hit in the rest of the world was "Don't Dream It's Over" from their 1986 debut album. Some of the band's other hit songs include "Better Be Home Soon," "Something So Strong," "Distant Sun," and "Weather With You."

Crowded House disbanded in 1996 and Finn went solo. In 2005, drummer Hester committed suicide at age 46. In 2007, the rest of the band officially reunited and released a new album, Time On Earth, on June 30.
