What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a workout regiment aimed at providing its practitioners with a broad, general fitness capacity. CrossFit was created by coach Greg Glassman and is continually adapted by him and others to achieve the highest level of fitness possible. CrossFit aims to provide its goals through constantly varied workouts, functional movements, and high intensity training.

The CrossFit mentality has been modified to serve various fitness purposes in more specific domains, including CrossFit Football (for strength oriented athletes), CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Endurance (for distance runners, bikers, swimmers, etc.). While specializing in a given area is somewhat contradictory to the original goal of a broad, general fitness, these specific programs have helped to allow athletes with specific interests and techniques to achieve many of the benefits of CrossFit while still continuing to train for sports or activities which interest them.

One example Crossfit Workout is Fran. This well know WOD (Workout of the Day) consists of alternating 95 pound Thrusters and Pull-ups for 21,15, then 9 reps. (ex. 21 Thrusters, 21 Pullups, 15 Thrusters...etc). This is done as fast as possible. The best completion times in the world for this workout are sub 2 minutes.
