Crossfire (1947 Film)

  • Crossfire is a crime drama written by John Paxton and directed by Edward Dmytryk. It is based on a novel by Richard Brooks and was released on July 22, 1947. The movie stars Robert Ryan as Monty Montgomery, a soldier during World War II. He's unpredictable and violent, killing Joseph Samuels, a Jewish man he met a bar. Crossfire also stars Robert Young and Robert Mitchum as Captain Finlay and Sergeant Kelly, respectively. The movie was nominated for five Oscars at the 1948 Academy Awards.
  • Plot Synopsis

    Crossfire tells the story of a violent World War II soldier named Monty Montgomery. While in a bar with his friends Floyd, Arthur and Leroy, played by Steve Brodie, George A. Cooper and William Phipps, he meets a Jewish man named Joseph Samuel, and kills him due to racial hatred. Captain Finlay, played by Robert Young, investigates the case. Monty's friend, Sergeant Kelly, played by Robert Mitchum, joins the investigation. Monty also kills his friend Floyd, when he's afraid Floyd will tell the police about the killing of Joseph. Sam Levine plays Joseph and Gloria Grahame appears as Ginny.
