Huet began his career in France, playing for the French National Team in the
1998 Winter Olympics. He also played for the Team Lugano of the Nationalliga A Hockey League in
Switzerland, starting the same year. Huet was then drafted 214th overall in the
2001 NHL Draft by the
Los Angeles Kings. Huet made his second appearance in the Winter Olympics in
2002, then joined the Kings American Hockey League affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs. Later in the 2002-
03 season Huet was called up to make his
NHL debut with the Kings. After another season in
Los Angeles, Huet was traded to the
Montreal Canadiens on
June 26,
2004. He did not make his first start with the Canadiens until
2005 however as he traveled to
Germany to play with the Mannheim Eagles during the NHL Lockout season. Huet then spent nearly four seasons in
Montreal before he was traded to the
Washington Capitals on February 26,
2008. Huet ended up taking over as the starting goaltender in the Capitals' 2008
Stanley Cup Playoff run, sending 17 year Capitals veteran netminder
Olaf Kolzig to the bench.
