Formed in 1966, Cream was a British group that mixed rock, blues, and psychedelia to impressive effect on classic songs like "Sunshine of Your Love," "White Room," "Born Under a Bad Sign" and their version of the blues standard "Crossroads." Cream released four studio albums before calling it quits in 1968.
The band Cream were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame in 1993 and reunited to perform at the induction ceremony. They reunited once again in 2005 on May second, third, fifth, and sixth. The tickets for all of the dates announced sold out in under one hour.
In February of 2006, Cream were awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for their influence of music as we know it today. It is rumored that yet another reunion may take place sometime in the near future.
Cream Supergroup Status
Often considered the first rock "supergroup," Cream featured guitarist Eric Clapton at the height of the "Clapton Is God" phenomenon, plus stellar songwriter Jack Bruce on bass and Ginger Baker on drums. Baker and Clapton would reunite to form perhaps rock's second supergroup when they hooked up with Steve Winwood to form Blind Faith.
Clapton
In the Rolling Stone magazine Eric Clapton was named the fourth best guitarist of all time. While his focus was mainly on blues/rock, his music was not limited to these genres alone. He was born on March 30, 1945 and still plays music to this day. He has been part of numerous bands throughout his career, and played on the Bob Marley track, I Shot The Sheriff. His staple song since his days with Cream has always been considered "Crossroads".
