Summary

Fifty-seven year old Otis Blake aka "Bad" Blake is a former small star in the country and western arena. Blake is a hard-living, overweight, chain-smoking alcoholic who spends his time performing in lesser venues such as bowling alleys and bars. His one bright spot is a standing gig at his friend Wayne Kramer’s Houston bar. Blake's doctor tells him if he continues this lifestyle it will lead to his death. His behavior has also led to many unsuccessful marriages and an adult son whom he does not know.

Blake then meets Jean Craddock, a newspaper journalist, who wants to do a piece on him for her newspaper. Through the time they spend together a relationship ensues and Jean and her four year old son become family to him. Blake also meets up with a former touring partner and protege Tommy Sweet (Colin Farrell) who would like Blake to write some songs for him. The choices he makes impact both his relationship with Craddock and his future. But will this promising future in both his professional and personal life be jeopardized by his history of self-destructive behavior?

Crazy Heart takes the viewer through the journey of an alcholic and the choices he faces in trying to change his life.
