The cranberry is a round-shaped, tart fruit that comes from low creeping vines that grow in bogs. It is initially white, but turns red when it ripens.
Cranberries are a major crop in the United States and Canada and are divided into four groups: the Common cranberry, Small cranberry, American cranberry and Southern Mountain cranberry.
Cranberries are considered a superfruit because they contain ideal qualities — high nutrient content, perceived health benefits, such as antioxidant qualities, convenience because of a reliable supply, and commercial success.
There are a variety of ways to consume cranberries. Cranberry sauce, cranberry juice, and sweetened dried cranberries are all popular ways of eating the fruit.
Increase in Popularity
In 1930, three cranberry growers got together with the goal of expanding the the market for their product. They created the Ocean Spray cranberry juice cocktail and went on to produce other products that encouraged the consumption of cranberries. Ocean spray also created the industry's first juice blend in 1963 when they released Cran-Apple, a blend of cranberry juice and apple juice.http://www.oceanspray.com/about/our_history.aspx
Ocean Spray Commercial Spot
This brief thirty second clip features a commercial for Ocean Spray cranberry sauce. It features the same Ocean Spray dual who are featured in several other Ocean Spray commercials. However, this one has a thanksgiving theme. Like the other commercials, this one also features them standing in a bog full of cranberries, but their family has joined them in the water along with a formal dining room table. While their delivery of the Ocean Spray cranberry sauce pitch still seems a little awkward at first, things take a quick and unexpected turn for the worst.
