Crab Cakes are and American dish traditionally composed of a mixture of blue crab meat, eggs, bread crumbs and seasonings shaped into patties, fried and served with a side of cocktail or tartar sauce. Follow along and learn how to make a delicious crabcake.
Types
- There are two common styles of crab cakes:
- Boardwalk style crab cakes are breaded, deep fried, filled with stuffing and served on a bun.
- Restaurant style crab cakes also known as gourmet crab cakes, are not stuffed and consist of chunks of crab meat and served as an open faced sandwich.
Quick and Easy Crab Cakes
- 1 pound of crab meat
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1/2 cup crackers (crushed)
- 1/3 cup parsley (fresh and minced)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
- Cayenne Pepper (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Butter or olive oil for frying
Directions
- Clean and shell crab
- Add all ingredients but oil into a large mixing bowl
- Shape into patties
- Cover and place in refrigerator for at least one hour. This allows the mixture to bind
- Fry in a heavy frying pan until both sides are golden brown. (approximately 10 minutes)
