  • Couture Fashion Week 2010 will be held at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City, New York.     • This fashion week event occurs twice a year. Once for Spring and summer and once for Fall and Winter. The event attracts press coverage and fashion buyers as well as socialites, celebrities and other affluent fashion consumers.
    • Over 6000 visitors are expected to attend the different weeks events.

    Haute Couture is French and means high fashion or elegant dressmaking. These garments are custom fit one of a kind design that are made for the wearer specifically.http://www.fashion-era.com/haute_couture.htm

    • The first dressmaker that showed what it meant to be a designer was Charles Fredrick Worth in the mid 1800's when he set up his couture house in Paris. The word couturier was created to describe him. It was during this time that design houses hired artists to come in and sketch designs. Then if the client liked the sketch they would commission the garment.
    • Couture garments are generally hand stitched and very carefully interlined so that they are able to be fitted to perfection on the client. With each dress taking such painstaking steps and up to 1000 hours to make it perfectly form fitting and personally for the client, the dresses sell for $50,000 and more. The dress could have thousands of beads hand sewn by the beading firm of Lesage. Founded in 1922 by Albert Lesage.http://www.fashion-era.com/haute_couture.htm
    • The fabrics will only be luxurious and will include silks, wools, leather,suede and other expensive and novelty fabrics.
