To create a new session, first open the program Pro Tools 9.

After the program has initialized and loaded up its plugins and such, this screen will pop up. Here, you have a few choices:

  • You can Create Session from Template, which lets you create a new session based on various categories you can choose from.

  • You can Create Blank Session, which is the option this tutorial will primarily focus on. This will let you begin a session completely from scratch. You'll be asked to specify the Audio File Type, Sample Rate and Bit Depth of the session you create.

  • .WAV is a good File Type to choose, 48 kHz is a good, high-quality Sample Rate and 24-bit Depth is a solid choice. It's important to choose these settings correctly as they affect the final product outcome of your project session.
