Exchanging Software Instruments

When you're recording software instruments in your GarageBand project, you may want to change the instrument of a previously recorded melody. You can easily exchange the instrument sound without re-recording the melody.

Select the Melody

Select a track with a melody that you that already recorded with a software instrument.

Adjust Loop Ruler

Set up the loop within the audio region. Slide the yellow loop ruler until it hovers over the region you want to exchange.

Play Melody and Select Instruments

Play the melody. While it's playing, go to the instrument library on the right side and select a different instrument.

The melody will change to each instrument as it's selected. It will be the same recording with a different instrument sound.
