Using MIDI Sustain

Use the sustain feature to hold out MIDI notes for the same length of time. The sustain is helpful for editing a melody that has lots of single notes rather than chords. It will add a rich, full sound to your audio.

Select Audio Track

Select the audio track that you want to edit. Make sure the track editor window is open.

Select Sustain View

On the left side of the track editor window, find the View bar. Click the bar and scroll to the Sustain View option.

The track editor will now display the graph for sustain. The graph has two options: On orOff

Adjust Sustain

Press the Apple key on your keyboard to produce the pen tool. Click on the top of the beginning of the audio region. This will turn on the sustain for the entire region, which means that all notes in the region will be held.

To turn off the sustain for part of the audio region, press the Apple key to produce the pen tool again. Click the bottom Off region where you want to remove the sustain. Your audio track will now have some sustained notes and some regular ones. You can adjust the rest of the track notes according to your preference.
