Adding and Editing a Track

After you've opened up a GarageBand session and want to add music to it, you will need to start by adding a new track. Once you open the track and select an instrument, you will be able to edit the audio region.

Add a Track

Click the Add Track button in the bottom left corner.

Select a Type of Instrument

Clicking the Add Track button will bring up a window with instrument options. You can choose from a Software Instrument, Real Instrument or Electric Guitar. Select the type you want and click Create

Your new instrument track will appear in the audio timeline. It is ready for you to record audio or place an audio region in its timeline.

Open the Track Editor

To edit the new track, click on the Track Editor button, which is to the right of the Add Track button in the bottom left corner. Clicking the Track Editor will bring up the track editor window.

When you have selected an audio region and click on Track Editor, you can view the measures and audio waves of the track in the track editor window. This allows you to manipulate the pitch, tuning and other audio effects.
