Using the Timeline Grid

The master timeline grid is the middle section of the GarageBand window. This region contains all the audio tracks and displays the waves for each of them. Above the timeline is a ruler that measures the audio.

Use the Playmarker

In the timeline, click on the playmarker and drag it along the audio tracks. It will snap to each individual note in the timeline. This gives you a linear view of the music project.

Change the Note View

You can change the note view of the timeline in its top right corner. For example, selecting 1/4 Note will break the timeline's measurements into quarter notes. When you slide the playmarker along the tracks it will snap to each quarter note in the audio region.

Zoom In or Out

You can zoom in or out on the audio waves by moving the slider in the bottom left corner.
