Starting a Project

When you want to begin working on a new GarageBand project, the start window contains ways to quickly get started. You can select one of the preset instrument settings and GarageBand will create a project customized for recording with that instrument.

Step 1: Select Instrument

Select the New Project tab in the GarageBand start window. Select the instrument you want to begin with and then click Choose

Each instrument option will open up a track with preset effects for that instrument. The options are: Piano, Electric Guitar, Voice, Loops, Keyboard Collection, Acoustic Instrument, Songwriting, Podcast and Movie

Step 2: Create Project

1. Give the new project any title you wish.
2. Save the project in a convenient location on your computer.
3. You have the option of adjusting the Tempo, Signature and Key of the project here. However, you don't need to focus on them yet and can always change them later on.

Click Create to start the project.

Step 3: Start Recording

A new GarageBand session will open up. Depending on which instrument you chose to begin with, GarageBand will provide tracks with default settings and effects for that instrument. You can start working on your project.
