If you've recorded a track but want to use only a certain part of it, you can use the editing split tool to isolate the good part of the track. The split tool can cut off the excess ends of the track by making cuts in it.
Find the Start of the Cycle
Listen to the track and determine the starting and ending points of the cycle you want to use. It helps to remember the measure number of each point.
Place the Play marker at the starting point of the cycle.
Split the Track
Go to Edit --> Split. Alternatively, you can press Command+T.
Your audio region will now have a cut, or split, where the Play marker was placed. One part of the track will be lighter and the other darker.
You can now delete the region you don't want while retaining the good cycle.
Now place the Play marker at the ending point of the good cycle. Go to Edit --> Split, or press Command+T to make another split in the track. This will separate the end of the track from the good region you want to isolate. You can delete the excess region.
Use the Isolated Cycle
You can now place the isolated audio region at any part of the project by using the grab tool to slide it to a different measure.
