Now that you've practiced drawing each quadrant of the United States, try drawing them all together with Ken.
Directions
Start with the Northwest, then add the Southwest. Continue by drawing the Southeast, then add the Northeast.
Hawaii
After you do this, add Hawaii, a state which is a grouping of islands. You can draw this wherever there is free space.
2. To the left of its upper left hill, draw a shape like a tadpole. This is Maui. To its upper left, add a small line for Molokai. To its lower left, add a dot for Kahoolawe. For Lanai, add another dot to the left of Kahoolawe.
3. To the left of these, add an infinity sign for Oahu. To the left of Oahu, add a small shape, Kauai, and then another shape, Nihau, to the left of that.
Alaska
You can draw Alaska wherever there is free space.
2. For the bottom side of the state, come back up, then add a thin projection, then another projection going down and to the left. To the left of this, draw four small circles for islands.
3. For Alaska's left side, draw a hill. After going back inward, draw another projection, then come back in again. Add a third small projection.
4. For the state's top side, connect the right and left sides with a wavy line.
USA Drawing Tips
- Practice each quadrant of the map for at least an hour a day. Remembering the smaller features of each state can be difficult, but it's those details that are the most impressive.
- A good way to remember how to draw all of the states is to really lock down certain states in your memory. When you have this solid foundation, the other ones will start to come to you.
- Certain states, like Texas, Florida and West Virginia, are memorable because they're distinct. Other states, like Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia, are memorable because they're very similar to each other and also right next to each other.
- It helps to think of the map as a puzzle. When you have enough puzzle pieces down around a missing piece, their sides will form the shape of that piece. You can use the border of a state as a clue to remind you of another state.
- Drawing the map of the entire USA can be a lot of work, so remember to take a break every so often and stretch.
- Make sure to pause the video whenever you need to, in order to compare your drawing with Ken's. After enough practice, you should be able to draw this map without a reference image, but for now, comparing will help out a lot.
