Welcome to Draw Christmas Characters! In this kid-friendly—but still challenging—art course, you'll learn to draw beloved Christmas characters with the whole family. The host of these lessons, Kenny O'Brien, is a former video game storyboard artist and level designer who has taught over 200 Mahalo video lessons.
The course starts off with an introduction to digital drawing. Kenny uses the ArtRage program in these lessons, but you can use either pencil-and-paper drawing or digital drawing programs.
After that, Kenny will teach you some basic exercises to strengthen your art skills. These are the building blocks for the other lessons in the series. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, line work and circle work are extremely important, so don't just skip over these!
Practice these exercises, then move on to the drawing, inking and coloring tutorials. You'll learn how to create pictures of classic Christmas characters like Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman, along with a beautiful Christmas tree and an intricate gingerbread house.
For all the young beginners out there, Kenny also teaches how to draw cute versions of holiday characters made using simple shapes. These drawings are the perfect introduction to the world of art.
At the end of the course, you'll design and put together a Christmas card using the characters and objects you've learned how to draw. You can send these hand-drawn cards to your family and friends.
