Costa Rica Lodging Options
There are many locations that specialize in certain activities and some places offer a wide range of activities. For instance, in Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, on the southwest corner of the Nicoya Peninsula, there is the Horizon Ocean View Hotel and Yoga Center which offers travelers a place where they can rest and restore their bodies with daily yoga practice and vegetarian meals. There are yoga hotels in the Osa Peninsula that are also provide great opportunities for wildlife viewing and hikes.
Near the active volcano of Arenal in Fortuna, you can find Tabacén Grand Spa Thermal Resort, where the climate is mild and temperate. Many other hotels have thermal spas in Costa Rica, including those near the older volcano Miravalles between the towns of Guayabo and La Fortuna in Guancaste province, such as Guyacán (budget), Yoko (moderate), and Thermomania (moderate). About an hour to the north, at the foot of volcan Rincon de la Vieja, you will also find two hotels that have hot springs, Hotel Guachipelin and Hotel Borinquen Mountain Resort. Both are situated against the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, where there are hiking trails, waterfalls, bubbling mud pots, a crater, fast flowing streams and plenty of wildlife to watch.
If surfing is your interest, you might want to consider the boutique hotel Blue Surf Sanctuary in Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, which has a 2 minute walk to a beach with great consistent waves. You can also practice your yoga there. Jaco and Tamarindo, which are both north of Mal Pais, are also very popular with surfers and there are many hotels on the beach. Airport Hotels in San Jose and LIberia
San Jose Costa Rica Hotels:
Hampton Inn and Suites, about 1 km away.
It is costs about 1 mil ($2) and is about a 5 minute taxi ride to downtown Alejuela, which is where the airport is located. There you can find moderately priced accommodations, such as Hotel Alejuela, or the more luxurious accommodations like the Trapp Family Inn.
To get to downtown San Jose, depending on the time of day, it takes from 20-40 minutes (traffic can sometimes be challenging, to say the least). The cost is $15. It also costs about the same to get to Pavas / Bolaños airport domestic flights via Nature Air and takes about 20 minutes.
Near the Liberia Airport:
Most of the hotels in Liberia are within 5-10 minutes from the aiport by taxi. There is only one hotel at the airport, Hilton Garden Inn. Other hotels to consider are Best Western El Sitio and Boyeros.
