  • Cosmetology pertains to the cosmetic professions of hair stylists, manicurists, estheticians, nail technicians and electrologists.

    Cosmetologists must be at least 16 years old and licensed by the state in which they practice. Some states also require a high school diploma or GED.

    There are three ways cosmetologists can earn money. The first is based on commission or a percentage of earnings, the second is from renting a booth in a salon and the third is an hourly wage. Tips are also another possible source of income but not considered a main source.
