After playing the better part of seven years with the Flames, Stillman was traded to the St. Louis Blues in 2001. After another two seasons with the Blues, Stillman signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the summer of 2003. He went on to record a career high of 87 points during the 2003-2004 season and was instrumental in the team claiming the Stanley Cup Championship title.

Stillman signed a three year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005 and was named the team's alternate captain shortly thereafter. Stillman proved his strong leadership skills and improved on his point count from the previous season to lead the Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup win.
