George Wallace Assassination Attempt
Cornelia Wallace was thrust into the national political spotlight when her husband, George Wallace, was shot by Arthur Bremer in a May 15, 1972, assassination attempt in Laurel, Maryland. Wallace was a presidential candidate at the time. When the shots rang out, Cornelia Wallace threw herself over her husband to shield him.
