College Football Career
Prior to playing in the NFL, Mays played college football with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He reshirted as a freshman in 2001, then played 10 games in 2002 on special teams. Mays continued on special teams in 12 games each season in 2003 and 2004, then had a breakout year in 2005. NFL Career
Mays entered the NFL as a free agent in 2006 by signing with the New England Patriots. He made his professional debut that same year, playing in eight games and recording nine tackles. After one game with the Patriots in 2007, he was cut and picked up by the Cincinnati Bengals. Mays played in 11 games in 2007 with the Bengals, recording 15 tackles and one pass deflection.
