The Cook's Garden catalog company specializes in vegetables, herbs, and other plants for those who garden primarily to cook.
Items are chosen for taste and color, and include both heirloom and organic varieties.
About Cooks Garden Catalog
Shepherd and Ellen Ogden started The Cook's Garden in Londonderry, Vermont in 1983. The gardens appeared in many magazines, such as Country Living, Martha Stewart, and Horticulture, and books and TV shows, and out of this the catalog was started.
In 1983, the company was first acquired by White Flower Farms and then by the Burpee company and now runs out of its offices in Pennsylvania.
Over the years, the catalog expanded as the gardens did. Today there is an extensive website as well as the catalog. The Ogdens have published cookbooks and gardening books, and Ellen Ogden was a spokesperson with The Cook's Garden until 2008.
Beginning in the 2009 catalog, The Cook's Garden began selling the controversial "heirloom hybrid" tomato 'Patty's Yellow Striped Beefsteak'. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704448304575195960955885080.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_MIDDLENexttoWhatsNewsTop
Shipping and Handling Policy
Live plants are shipped according to safe handling date by region; seeds and accessories are shipped promptly upon order. Shipping is based on price, and if more than one box must be use, it doesn't affect shipping cost.
Standard shipping is $5.95 for order up to $10 and increases $1 for each $10 of order cost, until $50, where it increases $2 for every $25. After the order price reaches $100, it's a flat 13%. There is no shipping and handling on gift certificates. Because of state laws, some items might not be shippable to some states.
Return Policy
Returns are accepted for a full year for the amount of purchase, providing either a replacement or a refund. They also guarantee that online transactions are 100% safe. No restocking or other fees are mentioned. www.cooksgarden.com/
