  • Career

A native of Austin, Texas, Jackson's father, an actor, moved to Los Angeles while his son was still a boy. Jackson attended the prestigious University of California, Berkeley and was chosen by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2003 amateur draft. After making a brief debut with the major league franchise in 2005, Jackson won the coveting starting first base role in 2005 and put together excellent rookie numbers, hitting 15 home runs, driving in 79, with a .291 batting average. He put up similar numbers in 2007, with a slightly higher batting average and lower RBI production in ten fewer games played, but began 2008 hitting at a torrid pace. In his first 36 games, he already drove in more than half as many runs as he did in all of 2007, and was batting .331 by mid-May. Jackson is considered a weak fielder.
