The Congo River, also known as the Zaire River, is located in Africa and the third longest river in the world. The river runs through five countries, including crossing the equator twice. The flow is considered turbulent and is constant as parts of its source always receives rain. The river is home to over 700 species of fish.
Chasing the Amazon
The Congo River falls just behind the Amazon in several of its characteristics. It is second in size of rivers in Africa and also flows into the second largest rainforest in the world. It also trails the Amazon in its flow.
