Jigenin Temple on Okinawa Island in Japan has seen a 30% increase in attendance, mostly attributed to Conan the Praying Chihuahua, a dog who imitates the Buddhist style of prayer.

His owner Joei Yoshikuni, a priest at the temple says "Clasping hands is a basic action of Buddhist prayer to show appreciation and he may be showing showing his thanks for treats and walks." It is believed that the increase of 30 per cent in visitors, especially among young tourists, may be attributed to Conans' mimicry of the priests at prayer.

Certainly,from the pictures and videos Conan appears to be a happy little dog and in excellent condition. He is displaying all the endearing qualities and engaging behavior so typical of the breed and anyone who knows Chihuahuas well will not be so surprised by this cute action, they are a highly intelligent breed of dog and delight in pleasing their owner.

It is also encouraging that he is wearing a harness, dogs as small as this have a very tiny windpipe and if they pull whilst on the lead it can be extremely dangerous for them.

With over 20,000 references to Conan on Google, this little dog is proving to be extremely popular and maybe in his own, tiny way is doing some thing positive for world peace.
