Conan O'Brien hosted the variety series Late Night with Conan O'Brien from September 13, 1993, to February 20, 2009. On June 1, 2009, he replaced Jay Leno as host of the Tonight Show. Before becoming a talk show host, he worked as a writer on The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live.
In January of 2010, NBC announced that it would cancel Jay Leno's 10 pm Jay Leno Show due to poor ratings, and was considering moving Leno back into a late-night slot in the schedule. The network publicly floated the possibility of moving O'Brien's Tonight Show back to 12:05 am, a decision the host stated he would refuse to abide by.
On January 14, TMZ reported that Leno would return to The Tonight Show in his old 11:35 pm time slot, replacing O'Brien, who would depart the network.http://www.tmz.com/2010/01/14/jay-leno-conan-obrien-nbc-the-tonight-show/
