Kaing Guek Eav, also known as Comrade Duch, was one of the leaders in the communist party in Cambodia during the late 1970s. Duch allegedly commanded the Khmer Rouge prison, Phnom Penh S-21. While the communist group held power between 1975 and 1979, approximately 16,000 men, women and children were tortured prior to being put to death.

He admitted more than 100 of his fellow prison personnel were "arrested, tortured and executed for minor offenses". After S-21 Prison
Later in his life, Kaing Guek Eav converted to Christianity.
