Comcast customers checking email received this message when trying to login: "KRYOGENIKS EBK and DEFIANT RoXed COMCAST sHouTz To VIRUS Warlock elul21 coll1er seven and Slacker."
Hackers defaced the Comcast.net site at around 11:00pm EST on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. As of late Thursday afternoon, the site was still experiencing problems.
According to posts in a forum, customer service was called and the customer was told the site is down for "routine maintenance."
The two hackers are teenagers that claim to be from the group "Kryogeniks". It is unclear the the intention that the hackers had when they broke into the system.
The teens are awaiting arrest.
Comcast.net Statement
Comcast's spokesperson Jennifer Khoury said that the hijacking was reversed, and there was no indication that e-mail or personal information was accessed during the attack. Khoury said "We have alerted law enforcement authorities and are working in conjunction with them."
